Figure Drawings and Location Studies

After some three weeks of being in a rut, I finally managed to make some breakthroughs with my figure drawing. I also discovered that I have a love for perspective. So anyhow...

This is a location study of some of the temporary stairs that construction workers need to access the Student Union construction site. It was too late for me to really work on tone, but I'm really happy with the structure of this one.

These are some tonal perspective studies. Nothing really amazing, but I think I'm starting to get tonal drawing. Thing about markers: they're pretty fun, but...sort of confusing. I think I'm going to do the next few in ballpoint pen crosshatching.

 This one isn't exactly either location or figure studies. Actually, I was debating on whether I should show this one, but...ah, to hell with it. Here's my specimen project. Getting the crit for this felt like taking a rocket to the face (since John Clapp was immediately able to tell that I was faking the shadows). But in all honesty, the project was a lot of fun. And I learned that...well, reference is paramount, haha. What I'll probably do is go back and redo the hand over the summer, cause I really do like this idea.

Figure Drawing 'Folio 2

Well! Been a long time since I said I would start using this blog. And now that I've been incredibly busy with drawing, why not share a few? These are the selected drawings that I chose for my figure drawing class's second portfolio. The focus is structure on top of the weight, balance, and proportions of our gestures.

We're also supposed to take our best one and break it down into the two steps of gesture and structure. Here's that for you:

So! The semester is almost over and I have finally completed my first 3D animation class! I'll admit that it was pretty hellish from the beginning, but after I got the basics, I found that it really wasn't all that hard. Just a lot of tedious work. Three months worth of all-nighters. Heh. But I'm pretty happy with how my animations turned out in the end.

Finals will officially be over for me tomorrow! But! I do have to take care of a physics test and finish my final pen and ink illustration. I'll post up some of my classwork after all of that jazz is over with.

Seems like art blogs are the latest talk-about in art school, so why not?

From now on I'll start posting various artworks here. Mostly going to update with sketches. Maybe some pen and ink stuff that I'll be experimenting with for my animation final.
